The Whirlpool Rapids
Besides the 90° bend in the river at Niagara Falls, the only other large bend in the Niagara River is at the Whirlpool, where there is anothe 90° bend. This whirlpoolgets up to 35 meters (120 ft) deep, with strong currents and apids. Some of the wildest "Class Six" whitewater rapids in the world flow through the Graet Gorge, from Niagara Falls, to the Whirlpool
When they start diverting more water for thje Hydro- electric plants on November 1st, the Niagara Whirlpool does something unusual, it changes direction. They call it the "Reversal Phenomenum". In April, when they resume the normal water flow, the whirpool changes direction back to its normal counterclockwise spin.
