Adventure Series Part 1

Ready to get out of the congestion of Toronto and into nature? Niagara Falls is known as the honey-moon destination of the world but also as the land of dare-devils. The Niagara region has attracted adventurers like a moth to a flame throughout all of history. The first recorded thrill-seeker to experience the falls was Annie Edison Taylor who went over the falls in a wooden barrel in 1901 AD. Since then,Niagara Falls has seen tight-rope walkers, competitive swimmers, and stunt men and women in barrels and metal capsules. It is hard to deny the thrill of adrenaline that the falls provide.

While today it is illegal to go over the falls for any reason, there are still many thrilling activities for the wild at heart in the area….that luckily are also safer.

For those with an affinity for water, we have the Hornblower Niagara Cruise. This adventure involves passengers boarding a boat that takes them face to face with the power of the falls, we get so close it feels like we could almost reach out and touch the cascade. I wouldn’t though, because the water falling has a force of 2,509 tons at the Canadian Horseshoe Falls. That much power, falling at 32 feet per second creates a deafening roar that is sure to awaken your sense of adventure.

If you are looking to add speed to your boating experience, I recommend the Whirlpool Jet Boat Tour offered just down-stream, this adventure has passengers boarding a flat-bottomed jet boat that then rockets up the Niagara River at 55 mp/hour.On the tour you will get to experience the deadly and thrilling Niagara Whirlpool from the security of the outskirts before jetting off to go play in the Class V rapids known as the ‘Devil’s Hole’ rapids. This experience is definitely not for the faint of heart.

For those who prefer air to water, check out next week’s blog post on the Thrills and Sights to Experience at Heights.
